Small Town America At It's Best

This is the kind of store you want to spend time in. The atmosphere is warm, the people are very friendly and helpful and it's just a fun place to shop. It is located on Main Street in a small community in Southeastern Vermont. It's got creaky wooden floors, a tiny fitting room and wonderful things that you don't see anymore in big chain stores. I bought my husband a "Union" suit there. For those of you that don't know what that is, it is a one-piece pair of long underwear. It buttons down the front and has a pull-apart "vent" in the back. It is extremely warm and comfortable to wear under your winter layers. Bradford Vermont gets VERY cold in the wintertime and the Union suit is just what you need to keep you warm and toasty on those frosty, snowy mornings. You can also find glassware, pots and pans, dishware, fabric, clothing, boots, mittens, hats, Vermont-made Vermont wool hats, coats and scarves. They have school supplies, metal colanders, and souvenirs. Eddie and Mary run the place and are just about the nicest, friendliest people I've met. You can try on hats that might be too small and get Mary laughing til tears roll down her cheeks. Eddie is all business but you won't find a nicer guy around. It's a general store in the old tradition of general stores, like the kind you see on the Waltons. It's a pleasure to shop there and talk with Mary and Eddie. Every time I visit Vermont, I make it a point some time during my stay, to stop in at Hill's 5 & 10 and just soak up the atmosphere that is still small town America at it's finest.
